PSA: Yes you CAN

There is a rule in our house. We are not allowed to say the word “can’t.” This is Dan’s rule and it was so foreign to me when we met. I was used to telling myself I couldn’t do it. I think most of us are. We grow up hearing it, even from people who care about us.  Not Dan. His parents were told he couldn’t walk. They said, “Oh, yes he can.” And that is the kind of support he had in his life.

And he has taught me the same thing. Yes I CAN. Maybe I don’t WANT to do something. Maybe I am not GOOD at something. But, I CAN do it. And we teach the kids that, too. How often have you heard your own kids, “But I CAN’T!!!” That does not fly in our house. You TRY. You DO. You CAN.

So tonight I was thinking about that. I have had a very long tough day. I had no idea what I would write today. I wanted to give up. I “couldn’t” do it. And then this little voice said, “Oh, yes you can.”

I decided I wanted to share this philosophy and my best way to keep this attitude going. It is really simple. It is a little silly. It is what works for me. I collect inspiring quotes. I love quotes and song lyrics that make me feel empowered. So tonight, so very late for a PSA post (sorry) I will share some of the most inspiring. I hope they inspire you, too. Remember that you always CAN unless you tell yourself otherwise.

“Whether you think you can,
or you think you can’t —
you’re right.”
~Henry Ford

“You’ll never do a whole lot unless you’re brave enough to try.”
– Dolly Parton

“Believe you can and you are halfway there.”
–Theodore Roosevelt

“Instead of thinking outside the box get rid of the box.”
–Deepak Chopra

“Do the best you can until you know better.
Then when you know better, do better.”
–Maya Angelou

“You don’t have to see the whole staircase,
just take the first step.”  — Dr. Wayne Dyer

“Never be afraid to try something new.
Remember amateurs built the ark,
professionals built the Titanic.” -Anonymous

Thank you so much for reminding us all that YES WE CAN. So often we forget this and often it is just from listening to others, but we just need reminding. Thank you.

That is so true. Unfortunately many people give up but this reminder keeps many of us going.

The one I taught my students: The only difference between possible and impossible is I’m.
